The check is in the mail…but not really

By mrscjallen

We’ve already made plans for the ‘rebate’ check that we will be getting.  We will be doing all of those things that they do not want you to do with it…paying medical bills, paying a speeding ticket, and saving it.  Of course, some of it is being put aside for a trip to Disneyland at the end of the year, so in all fairness, I am using it to stimulate the economy…just not anytime soon.  Which is OK, because I honestly don’t foresee seeing the check anytime soon.

I missed all the fine print that was attached to the rebate check.  The fine print that said even if you have to pay the government this year and you are not expecting a refund, put your bank routing number on your forms.  This way they can direct deposit your ‘rebate’.  I missed the fine print that said that the posted schedule applied to those people who filed early…not to those that waited until the last minute and had to drive around frantically to find a post office to postdate their return for the 15th.  Nope, not to those people.  Those people, the ones who didn’t think to give the IRS a bank routing number and who had to wait until the 15th of April to have all of the money they owed, well, the schedule doesn’t apply to them.  In fact, there is not a schedule for them.

They will simply receive their ‘rebate’ when the government gets around to it.  After they have taken care of all the January filers who were expecting a couple thousand or so back, well then they will start processing the procrastinators.  Maybe we’ll see our rebate checks in December…just in time to be prompt about paying the government what we owe next year!

You’re singing to the choir. My sister, some friends, and myself all thought that the rebate was the way. Some of us had planned Marine World trips with the family. Others needed to invest in a better computer. Still others were planning of getting our medical expenses out of the way. While, my husband and I were hoping this money would come in soon so that we could pay off our business licence requirements to possible start a small busines in fence building. But noooooo….oh well! I gues we’ll just have to wait. :-)

Well, at least you didn’t put all your planned expenses on a credit card!
