This Is The Stuff

Posted: 2011/05/17 in Uncategorized

Every now and then I pick up take out from a place that’s been in business for over 30 years.

Tonight I picked up ‘Stuff’; a soup with beef, macaroni, potatoes, carrots and celery in a tomato broth. I was sort of hoping I’d have enough for lunch tomorrow but apparently Chuckie likes Stuff too.

One of these days I am going to try to recreate the soup at home but I am not sure I am ever going to be able to make it taste quite the same. I think there is a secret ingredient in there.

Maybe I should ask the cook if she will reveal her secret.  Does a cook ever reveal their secrets? Maybe if I ask nicely and say pretty please. Maybe then my mom will tell me how she makes that soup.

Stuff sounds delicious. Real comfort food. Yummy. That same night I went to Impress Hot Pot and ate soup-ish food too. Not real soup though. We had a boiling pot of broth on the table and our ingredients came out raw. You put your ‘stuff’ in the Hot Pot for a minute or so and fish it back out. We had Woodear Mushrooms, Pickled Cabbage, Glass Noddles, Beef Slices, Beef Meatballs, Crab, and Toffu Balls. You got to mix up your own dipping sauce too from a large selection of ingredients. My first go at making a dip was a disaster. Too hot and thick. I coughed for 7 and half minutes. Then I tried again with Sesame Seed oil and Garlic. Much better. The food was great and the China Men that ran the place were all very attractive. Great experience. If ya ever come down we should go there.
